Nudity is Natural & Wholesome

Liberated Christians
20th May 1999
Many people have been brought up taught that nudity is immoral and we should never allow others to see our true bodies. It is alright to titillate with provocative clothing, or tiny beach wear, but not to show the natural beauty of our bodies, especially genitals or women's breasts. This sense of shame is not inborn: it is learned. Babies have no shame and neither did many early Christians in Biblical times. Fortunately today there is also a very rapidly growing naturist movement that has learned: "Nude is not lewd". Nudism promotes a healthy respect and trust with each other and after a few minutes of uncomfortableness when first exposed to this experience it becomes much less sexual and more naturally enjoyable. Nudity can be sexual if consenting persons wish it to be and in appropriate settings, but it is not necessary to progress from nudity to sexual activity. We can learn to respect one another's sensitivities and interests and communicate these to one another.

Journey of a Naturist

Story by Tony-S
27th August 2009
Seventy three years is a long way to search for the seeds of dedication to the naturist lifestyle. The walk to secondary school led past the village newsagent where the display of papers and magazines around the doorway included the small sized Health and Efficiency with its air brushed sepia photos of naked figures at play. One day I found a dozen discarded copies when roaming nearby parkland and was able to view every picture and read every word of text. So, at the age of nine my thoughts and dreams were already set upon seeking the lifestyle for myself...

How to look good naked...

Story by Lady Jane
22nd August 2009

As a 26 year old female naturist, I am often baffled why women are afraid of their own nudity. Lets face it, we spend most of our lives (once we reach puberty) trying to get people to notice us. We daub ourselves with make-up, buy the fanciest perfumes we can afford, spend most of our income (and then some) on shoes and clothes, all to look good, be noticed, and feel good about ourselves. Surely, if it is all about getting noticed, isn't there a far easier way to achieve that? Initial impressions are that nudists all perve on each other, and while that may happen in some cases, on the whole one generally starts to forget completely about being nude, and can relax completely.

Nude Band Rocks South East Queensland

Story by R.U Nude
9th August 2009

On the 25th of April, 2009 a new Aussie Band with a difference was launched at the Cooroy Colony in South East Queensland. The Naked Drummer and the Baileys Road Band tell the story of what it is like to be a naturist in Australia, sometimes tongue in cheek, and always with a smile. The band has produced some thought provoking songs as well as toe-tapping hits specific to nudists, and even a song written from the perspective of a non-nude partner. The ten track album, due to be released to the media on the 25th of April at Carters Ridge in Queensland, shows that there is a lot more to Naturism than just skinny-dipping at the beach. The event was organised by the president of the nudist web forum Aussie Naturists, with the kind support and sponsorship of the ANF. As the first event of it's kind in Australia, it was a huge success.

The event included a body-painting competition, with the support of professional body painter Jude Spence from Awesome Face Painting. Jude certainly had her work cut out for her with people lining up throughout the day to have their bodies transformed into some very creative art work. The competition culminated in a prize of two nights accommodation for a couple at two Musavale Lodge in SE Queensland and one night at Extraordinary People's B & B in North Queensland. Of course, being ANZAC Day, we commemorated the ultimate sacrifice of our diggers in war who gave us the freedom to be who we are today. This includes the right to be nudists. On the day there was also a very carefully orchestrated sausage sizzle, as well as champagne and refreshments.

The CD launch was a huge success, with one nudist commenting "This is the best nudist event I have ever attended, and I'll be the first to put my hand up for the next one. It's only a shame that more media didn't turn up to see that we nudists are not at all like they tend to portray us in the press." The President from Aussie Naturists. Throughout the afternoon, the band played some of their songs from the CD to the delight of the people who attended, who were very vocal in expressing their appreciation as they danced and enjoyed themselves. The Naked Drummer & the Baileys Road Band consists of Richard (on drums), Tracey (rhythm guitar), Dennis (lead guitar) and Yvonne (bass guitar). Richard has been a keen nudist for approximately 15 years, embracing the lifestyle and all it has to offer. He and Dennis have been friends for almost as long and have played music together on and off over the years. During an “off” period where they had both got caught up in the busyness of life, they each realised that there was something missing and boredom was setting in. Music was the missing element and so they got back together, this time bringing in the girls to create more of a band feel. stated, "We need to have more such events in Australia, not only to promote unity and tolerance among nudists, but also to attract younger nudists who feel we are all about 'Ye olde sports' and have nothing to offer them". Body painting is widely practiced in European Naturism, and is only a natural extension of the lifestyle. He said, "Naturism is a lifestyle where people chose to be naked, it has nothing to do with sex or perversion, and it's time we stood up and used our rights to prevent the descrimination which is rife at the moment. All it will take is one serious anti-descrimination case, and the media will think twice before printing their ridiculous, un-researched stories."

So with Richard on drums, Tracey playing rhythm guitar, Dennis on lead guitar and Yvonne playing bass, they had a whole heap of fun playing music together in the ‘Band Room’ every Friday night. While they play mostly covers, they have come up with a few songs of their own. Richard, the only nudist of the group, wrote the song “I Got to be a Nudist” and Dennis wrote the music. They added this to their repertoire and got such good feedback about it from both nudists and non-nudists alike, that they decided to write more.

While Dennis, Yvonne and Tracey are not nudists, through Richard (who of course is the ‘Naked Drummer’), they have gained an understanding of what the lifestyle is all about, and have on occasion accompanied Richard to the Nudist Beach. Dennis and Yvonne even ventured bravely into getting their gear off for one of Richard’s Video clips for his song, which can be viewed HERE. Even though not nudists, they have found themselves defending the lifestyle to people, who through ignorance equate it with sex and generally have the wrong idea about it. The band has found their songs communicate a better understanding of what the Nudist Lifestyle is all about, as well as providing a window of opportunity to explain it to people so they are better informed. "Thanks to Aussie Naturists members who attended, and the band's extraordinary efforts and musical talent, we have been able to promote naturism in a very positive light, and in collaboration have been able to show that 'online nudists' definitely do exist, and are just as genuine as club nudists", states Aussie Naturists President. You may purchase a copy of the The Naked Drummer and The Bailey’s Road Band first CD online HERE, read more about the band, contact the band, and view more images from the event. Look out for the band at your next nudist event - they are available for bookings.

Naturism Vs Nudism

Story by R.U Nude
16th August 2009

The debate between the Naturist and the Nudist has raged for time immemorial, and has often become heated. In the end, all it has served is to delineate certain naturists from others, and shatter the unity and tolerance that both naturism and nudism is supposed to personify. The division between different naturists has been further exacerbated by the political differences between beach nudists and club nudists. However, when it all boils down to it, we are all the same underneath, and all in some way fight the same battles, albeit on different fronts. With the lack of an organised movement in a positive direction in Australian naturism, perhaps the time has come for a shift away from both titles to something entirely different. Why should such a drastic move be necessary? One doesn't have to look too far on the internet when searching for nudist/naturist content to realise the sheer volume of sexual related material. Of perhaps greater concern is the number of individuals in photographs displayed engaged in sexual activity.

Unfortunately naturist have in the past vehemently denied that sex and naturism occur simultaneously, resulting in this common behaviour going unchallenged at our nude beaches across the country. This problem is highlighted by club nudists who tend to ignore or deny that they too sometimes have issues of the same ilk, although they are able to control them better, being private premises. However people may choose to ignore the problem, the rest of us enlightened individuals who have an interest in the future of naturism need urgently to stand up in opposition. The sad fact is that there are many individuals out there who simply equate nudity with sex, unlike the enlightened nudist who is able to delineate the two. The widespread proliferation of internet based nudist pornography only serves two disturbing purposes:
  • It gives 'exhibitionists' cause to think that we naturists accept their displays of sexual activity, and;
  • It shows gives the general public (and more importantly the media) the impression that we all support, or at the very least tolerate, sex on our beaches.
Of course we know that neither of these facts are true, but if we do not physically challenge exhibitionists, take action against them, and speak out against them, this deplorable and illegal activity will continue unabated, and become even more common until local authorities are forced to close all our beaches. Such individuals, in their very behaviour, demonstrate that they are not afraid of being exposed - in fact 'exposing' themselves and their lewd sexual acts is their primary aim. The have no concern for others around them, for the law, for children present and mistakenly believe that people want to see them engaged in sexual acts. Clearly, from the images obtainable throughout the internet, they are not even afraid of being photographed and plastered throughout all corners of the globe. There is one thing they are afraid of, and that is being caught.

It is unfortunate, and also fortunate, at how quickly information is spread across the internet. One can find internet sites promoting certain nudist beaches as 'gay' pick-up joints, and some which even go quite a bit further. However, we can and should also be using the internet to focus our efforts to fight and expose the undesirable elements in nudism. The individuals who engage in sexual conduct on nude beaches could not be further removed from naturism. They do not follow any of our beliefs, they have no interest in the type of freedom we seek, nor are they particularly interested in making friends. Casual encounters, quick jollies, and exhibitionism is their main priority. One has to also question the level of intellect, given that they don't seem to understand that their activities threaten the very place they like to indulge. Somewhat akin to going to the toilet in their own nest.

Judgement TimeThe Naked DrummerMaking the BeatThe Event MC

There is one, and only one, course of action. And before you say it is all too hard, consider this. We are already a minority, thus the exhibitionist is a minority within a minority. We have the power and the numbers to stand against them and take the necessary action. What is more, we also have the law on our side. Do not kid yourself that calling the police will cause you to be arrested or embarrassment. We have seen, and directly spoken to clothed police, on nudists beaches who were there to arrest individuals. We have also had friends who have directly challenged exhibitionists (not advised), seized cameras, taken photos of perpetrators, and called the police. It's quite amazing how quickly these people move along when they realise that the police are (or might be) on the way. One only needs to pretend to call the police to send the individuals on their way. It's time we reclaimed our beaches and protected them from closure, rather than expect someone else to do it. It we want our valuable lifestyle to continue and to grow, if we want our image in the public eye to improve, the onus is on us to act now and show the community that we do not tolerate lewd conduct in our neighbourhood either!
